Without food, man can live at most but a few weeks; without it, all other components of social justice are meaningless.
Norman Borlaug
As a guest in Uganda, I never went hungry. In fact, I regularly was offered far more than I could consume at one meal. Unfortunately, this is not the case for many Ugandans. Food security is one of the most, if not the most, important social justice issues. Peace, security, education and health are essential for thriving societies, but none can be achieved without food security. Though my experiences, I was able to see the impact and great need for food security in the Masaka region.
Individual experiences can be very meaningful. But, put in a broader context, individual experiences can provide a much more useful view of an event or place. There is much to be said about both Uganda and development. Volumes upon volumes have been written upon each subject. Thus, it is my goal to distill the wealth of information about development and discern the theories most applicable and promising for the locale I became familiar with. Background on Uganda and my host organization will also be given.
